1. KISSING MERLIN LOOKS LIKE BEING ON A JUMPING CASTLE HIGH WHILST EATING FAIRY-FLOSS.
2. ARTHUR. THE DRESS. THE COMPLETE SURRENDER TO MERLIN'S INSANITY. IT'S CUTE, GUYS. IT'S SO CUTE.
3. Okay, I said two but I didn't mean it in retrospect. If these two aren't shagging then the universe and I just aren't speaking the same language anymore. Some of those photographs... Yeah, Colin, Bradley. I know sexual tension when I see it and THAT is some A-grade shit.

I started thinking when I was very, very high about how the Merlin characters are being emotionally simplified because the show is, in essence, a kid's show. I'm very aware of the quality of Merlin compared to other TV shows and they've really screwed themselves over by trying too hard to reach across the board. Imagine if the creators of Mad Men or Skins got their hands on this shit and were given free reign. Arthur would not go stomping into his dad's room, have a hissy fit and try to kill him. He'd, like any other normal tweny year old guy, go out, get drunk, get laid, smash some bottles, get into a fight and wake up the next morning with a killer headache next to his naked manservant. And then, THEN he'd go and have a chat with dad. But Arthur is being written as an extremely honorable, righteous and heartbroken eleven year old boy in the body of an adult prince, with the responsibilies and guilt trips of an adult prince. Only he can't express himself like an adult because children viewers would just be like, 'o_0 wtf?'. As for Merlin, well. Please. His INNOCENCE AND TRUST AND LOYALTY AND PURITY. He's totes ten. On the inside. A little retarded? Yeah, well, IDK. THEY EAT SANDWHICHES. WITH TOMATOS ON. Whatever.

And then there was my other theory that Merlin gets a little high after using magic. That it leaves him all light headed but gives him a rush at the same time and all of a sudden he's walking into broom cupboards and dropping things and getting suddenly distracted by how shiny Arthur's hair is in the sun. So... that's that.

Well, flying, obviously. I want to SURF THE WIND LIKE A CHICK FROM A HAYAO MIYAZAKI MOVIE. Haunting piano melodies Must Be Included.

I never thought this show would up it's game, but it just proved me so, so wrong.

It's just started raining here (first rain of the season=best thing ever) and because I like to think my life is a movie, I've been playing derryere's playlist 'the weather of you' a lot because it's lovely and I get  all 'THIS IS TOTALLY A MOMENT, GUYS' like that. And then I looked at my iPod and thought, well jesus. I don't think I have plans tonight, may as well read the fic she made it for. Turns out I totally did have plans which I'd forgotten about so akwarrddd but I canceled because Deluge by suaine is just magnificent and it sucked me in. I was just so happy to stay at home listening to the rain and reading this.

I personally liked the first half better than the second because it has some brilliantly haunting and tragic scenes with Arthur, Morgana and Uther (no one does drama like the Pendragons). I actually shed tears, guys. Her characterisation of Arthur is great as well; you see him grow and turn into this wonderful self aware human being. He softens and hardens throughout the fic and it's just... well IDK. Beautiful to see him written like a real man with a hero's consciousness. This Arthur broke my heart. Particularly in his relationship with his father and his kingdom, which is serious emotional business and I love it when it's done well. And of course the words are gorgeous and tender and poetic in places. I loved. Have any of you read it? If not YOU SHOULD DEFINITELY HIT THAT SHIT UP.

In other news, I wrote this for the AWESOME MAGICAL REVEAL MEME because I am... ridiculous.

So I was just at this thing and I was talking to this chick about the Princess and the Frog movie. She's about 26.

Girl: I'm so excited! You don't understand, I'm such a Disney freak.
Me: No, you don't understand I'm such a Disney freak.
Girl: I had a princess party last year.
Me: I watch the DVD commentaries.

I went on to explain that I'd studied animation, so my enthusiasm is more focused on the technical aspects. As opposed to you know, being 26 and dressing up as a princess. Not that I'm judging. Or anything. But guys, guys Merlin SOON. IT'S BEEN A LONG TWO WEEKS WITHOUT MAH BOYS. AND KATIE MCGRATH. Gwancelot HMM? Whatever dudes, I was into the M+A thing, still but like it's subtext. We loved the subtext. And this season there's not so much, and they're more like the Odd Couple, more bromance and that's cool, too. They like each other, they have this fun dynamic, why do they have to be like "OTP"  and get all shippy? It amazes me how some people are actually affected by it and view the show differently. Honestly. Not only that but everyone on the show is fucking in love with EVERYONE. Gwen falls in love with everyone she meets, Morgana had a thing for Uther&son, M+A are a constant, Arthur is in love with his own reflection in his well polished armor. WHATEVS it's great.

Anyway. SO YEAH. YOU STILL HAVE ME :D 

Also Merlin looked SMOKING in that leather chain mail getup. Arthur looking at G through the fire. C'MON. THAT WAS ALSO HOT. Lancelot is just the prettiest thing this side of ancient Britain and Morgana in her little white slip baby I just love this cast. Also, what--

Happy Birthday Bradley! At first I thought he was just a strange looking jawline with hair but now I've gotten to know him and I think he's totally awesome and then some and also in love with CM but it's cool, I dig it. It's come to a point where I don't even care what happens to these characters anymore, and end up zoning out and staring at Serena's boobs, whatever Blaire is wearing and Nate's hair. I've been doing some research for an Archeology fic and LOOK WHAT I FOUND.

SO I'm reading The Liar by Stephen Fry and it is like Oscar Wilde time traveled to the 70s, looked around, said, "Wait... so it's OKAY to write novels about gay English school boys?" It's the most epic thing I've ever read, especially as it triggers the part of me that wants to wear a Cambridge tie and study philology for the heck of it. THE WORDS, MAN. THE WORDS HE USES. Also, I don't know man. The adds for S2 of Merlin are SO MUCH FUN. Merlin's all like "SHE'S NOT MY SPECIAL LADY FRIEND, MAN. I'M JUST HELPING HER CONCEIVE." And Arthur's like, "Well, hello, Guinevere. You look SMASHING from this angle." And Gwen's all, "Haha! My new dress! It's blue!"

It's about 3:30 in the morning and I finally got around to watching the last few episodes of Kings.
( spoilers for the last 3 eps of KINGS  ) I'm really pissed that the show got canceled. Yes I see the problems in the writing and they don't exactly make it easy viewing. It's not like TOP QUALITY like Mad Men, and it's not funny or real enough to spark general interest. It's character driven, and that's about all that's driving it, so yes, I get why they let it go. But still, I'd have liked um... more Jack.

Anyway. In exactly a week I'll be on an plane and that fills me with crazy childlike glee. Because dude. We're gonna be IN THE SKY. Flying over Kazakhstan and crazy places and bitching about plane food. Good times.
